Other Plain Language Materials
Additional materials have been developed using health literacy principles to help health care providers communicate more clearly with parents.

Our team has designed other materials that can be used to help explain difficult concepts to parents. These tools are meant to be used as part of provider counseling, and are not meant to be handed out to parents without discussion.
For example, our BMI growth charts use plain language and colors to help providers talk about a child’s weight status, and whether a child is very overweight, overweight, at a healthy weight, or underweight. The tool uses plain language to explain what each color zone means, and what parents can do if their child’s weight falls into the different categories.
