About Greenlight HELP Initiative
Empowering parents to learn about their child's growth and development — in the clinic waiting room, doctor's office, and at home.

Understanding health information can be overwhelming, especially for parents of a young child. In the pediatric clinic waiting room, HELP Project staff and volunteers share information and problem solving strategies to help parents make changes to keep their child growing healthy and strong.
Our initiative supports evidence-based obesity prevention messages given by pediatricians, starting in a baby‘s first months of life. Topics include breastfeeding, satiety cues, introducing solid food, physical activity and behavioral issues.

Program Design
The Greenlight HELP initiative focuses on children from
2 months to 2 years of age. A health literacy approach was used to design
the three main components. Materials are available in English and Spanish.

HELP Project Partnership
The HELP Project extends the reach of Greenlight beyond the doctor’s office. In the clinic waiting room, HELP Educators explore the three main messages in each Greenlight Booklet, using a unique, interactive, parent-directed curriculum.
This means that parents are already familiar with Greenlight when they see the doctor, who can then use the time for more in-depth discussion and goal-setting.
Our combined mission is to use a health literacy approach to empower parents to see their visit to the doctor as an opportunity to get actionable information to help their babies grow healthy and strong.
